God in the Hands of Angry Sinners

God in the Hands of Angry Sinners

This week we witnessed a very significant cultural indicator that ought to raise incandescent red flags in the minds and hearts of Christians in America. At a major political party convention God was booed by a large part, if not the majority, of the attendees. It was like that iniquitous day in Jerusalem when the crowd cried out for Christ’s blood; “Crucify him!” The brazen, public hostility towards God by a major political party is a chilling indication of where we are headed as a nation.

Decades of secular public school education has now percolated up and saturated the culture. We’ve just seen the beginning of its bitter fruit. What was especially troubling is that it was not the arrogant, unbelieving élites, nor the loony Hollywood liberals, but the rank and file that mocked and disdained our Holy Creator.

Before you think this hostility exists only in just one major party you have to remember that secularization is occurring across the board in America. We have been relentlessly brow beat this election cycle that it is only about jobs and the economy, period. Any moral or social issues, such as the killing of innocent unborn babies, the corruption of marriage and family, or religious liberty are considered political liabilities. Why? Because everyone knows the majority of Americans only care about money.

The ironic truth is our abysmal economic situation is the result of unprincipled moral and spiritual leadership in both major parties, aided and abetted by “We the People.” The people could have stopped the profligate spending at anytime, but our insatiable, selfish economic desires have numbed our conscience. “We the People” even pretend to act shocked when the promises lying politicians make bankrupt the country. We know there is no free lunch, but the enslavement of our children with $16 trillion in debt to our enemies isn’t regarded as a troubling moral matter.

We live in a republic founded on the proposition that “all men are created equal and endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights.” But, in order to get elected to the highest office in the land you must functionally deny God and godliness. Secular America is sawing off the very branch of liberty on which they are sitting.

Oh sure, politicians traipse God out every once in a while to appear spiritually minded, and even sing “God Bless America” with dampened eyes. But you can’t take God and his Word seriously as the basis for righteous and just public policy. So we now live under tyrannical, contradictory, arbitrary, unjust, man-made laws and policies. How’s that working out for us?

WHAT CAN WE DO?

In this election cycle, because people are so beat up and stressed out about where the country is going, we are told to just shut up and support the right candidate. But, it is naive to think that everything will work out with the “right” person in the White House. I really wish it were that simple.

Do I think one candidate is clearly the lesser of evils in this election cycle? Yes, I do. Keep in mind that in a fallen world every election is always the case of voting for the lesser of evils. Only in Heaven do we get a perfect government. But, this election cycle’s frustrations seem more exaggerated.

We do know that God is sovereign and that for His own reasons has put a very confounding choice before us. That’s His business. But, that does not absolve me of my duty. I will support the lesser evil because to not do so is to help the greater evil. Opting out or voting in protest is a dereliction of our clear Christian duty to resist evil.

WHERE’S THE HOPE?

Our only hope is God and in the outpouring of a great spiritual tsunami! It can destroy decades of secular brainwashing that has been foisted on the American soul and eviscerated her.

I’m not talking about a Tea Party Movement, although I am thankful for it. Rather, an organic movement, birthed by the convicting and converting work of God the Spirit, built on the transforming grace of Almighty God through faith in Jesus Christ.

God has shed His grace on America with revivals, awakening and mass movements towards Christ. These spiritual movements have always produced dramatic individual transformation and profound social impact.

Before we blame the politicians, or put false hope in them, remember that the reason the representatives of the people are corrupt is because “We the People” have become corrupt. A truly moral and religious people would never tolerate the murderous, perverted and wasteful practices and policies that are spewing out of Washington D.C.!

TAKE ACTION

There will be “40 Days of Prayer for America” leading up to the election. Millions of American’s will be praying for God’s mercy and that He will turn us back to Himself. Please, join in this concerted effort to bombard heaven with sincere expressions of personal and corporate repentance.

Some skeptics have already declared America “dead on arrival.” The ashbin of history is filled with nations that imploded because of the toxic character of godless people. Certainly we have offended God and if He were to give us what we deserve we could not stand. But, we believe in a God of mercy and a God of resurrection power. Will you pray and even fast for God’s mighty intervention in the hearts of millions of our fellow Americans?

Finally, don’t let the mocking blasphemy of the wicked trouble you. First, pray for God’s mercy on them. Remember that if it weren’t for God’s grace you would have joined in that infernal cacophony. Then rest assured that God will vindicate His name, even as we pray, “Hallowed be thy name.” In the meantime, God will cause even the wrath of man to praise Him. Ultimately, we know that our God will not be mocked!

Thank you for highlighting this truth and the responsibility of Christians everywhere to act upon the promises of God rather than draw back and faint in the way. I thank God every day for the undeserved mercy He continues to bestow, continually reminding myself and God that He much prefers mercy to judgement, His merciful compassion far beyond our ability to fathom. Absolutely no one deserves Him and the wondrous things He has done and continues do for His creation, eternally grateful for His infinite patience and mercy. Please include me in those who will fight the good fight of faith through the power of anointed fasting and prayer. While worldly conditions appear bleak, with God all things are possible, absolutely nothing impossible for our God! The righteous are NOT defeated and I am encouraged!

There is a point at which God says enough is enough. Even with Israel his chosen Nation he tells Jeremiah to stop praying for them I will not hear. In Romans God at some point gave people up to a reprobate mind. I believe that America is at a crossroads in her relationship and her usefulness to God. God truly uses nations to bring about his will. Those nations are used to fulfill his promises to Israel and his promise of a kingdom to come. I pray for our Country every day. I will continue to pray for revival to sweep America. I pray for our president that he might be saved. But God is not obligated to answer our prayers. But he is obligated to keep his promise that he made with Abraham Isaac and Jacob, and his promise that some day there will come a kingdom ruled by the Lion of the tribe of Judah, Jesus. I don’t know if America has crossed the line or not but I do know that God’s will will be accomplished no matter what happens in our presidential elections or whether we have revival or not.
